Privacy Policy

Last revision: July 13, 2024.

This Privacy Policy governs the manner in which the School (sometimes referred to as "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, maintains, and discloses information collected from visitors and users (each, a "Student") of the School. This Privacy Policy applies to the School, its websites (jaydoesjs.com, www.jaydoesjs.com, chapters.jaydoesjs.com, and jaydoesjs.teachable.com), and all materials offered by the School.

1. Personally identifiable information

We rely on Teachable to host and maintain some of our websites; specifically, chapters.jaydoesjs.com and jaydoesjs.teachable.com.

Our relationship with Teachable is based on a data processing agreement, which can be found at teachable.com/dpa.

Teachable may collect and process some of your personally identifiable information (later "PII") for their own purposes. To learn more about this, please refer to Teachable's privacy policy, which can be found at teachable.com/privacy-policy.

Teachable may also make some of the PII they collect from you available to us. The scope of our processing of your PII is outlined below.

Definition

Personally identifiable information includes:

Purpose

We may collect and use your PII for the following purposes:

We do not sell, trade, or rent your PII to others.

Processing

We may collect PII from you in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to, when you enroll in the School or any material within the School, subscribe to a newsletter, and in connection with other activities, services, features, or resources we make available in our School. You may visit the School anonymously. We will collect PII from you only if you voluntarily submit such information to us. You can refuse to supply PII but doing so may prevent you from engaging in certain School related activities.

Retention

We retain your PII as long as you have an account with us, or as long as we are legally required to (whichever is longest).

2. Anonymized usage data

In addition to the PII described above, we collect anonymized usage data from all our websites.

Definition

"Anonymized usage data" includes

Purpose

We use anonymized usage data to understand how Students use our website as a whole. We do not use anonymized usage data to track individual Students.

Processing

We store anonymized usage data on a virtual private server (later "VPS"). This VPS is provided to us by Hetzner (a German VPS provider) and is located in Germany.

We collect anonymized usage data directly on Students' browsers by means of custom JavaScript code. We then transmit this anonymized usage data to our VPS in encrypted form using SSL/TLS.

To protect our VPS from abuse, we rely on Cloudflare, which offers us content delivery network (CDN) and distributed denial of service (DDoS) protection services. When data is transmitted to our VPS, it always goes through Cloudflare's infrastructure.

Our relationship with Cloudflare is based on a data processing agreement, which can be found at cloudflare.com/cloudflare-customer-dpa .

Once anonymized usage data arrives to our VPS, we store it and analyze it using a self-hosted instance of Plausible, a privacy-friendly analytics software. You can learn more about how Plausible works at the following links: plausible.io/data-policy and plausible.io/privacy-focused-web-analytics. (Please, note that we do not rely on the cloud version of Plausible offered on plausible.io. As a result, only the information pertaining to the software itself, and not the company that develops Plausible or plausible.io, is relevant here.)

Retention

We retain anonymized usage data indefinitely.

3. Server logs

Every time a request is made to any of our servers, we collect the following information:

We use this data to to maintain the security of our servers and to identify potential issues with our servers (such as performance degradation and missing pages).

This data is stored in log files on our servers and is permanently deleted after 14 days.

4. Third party websites

Students may find advertising or other content in our School that link to the websites and services of our partners, suppliers, advertisers, sponsors, licensors and other third parties. We do not control the content or links that appear on these websites and are not responsible for the practices employed by websites linked to or from our School. In addition, these websites or services, including their content and links, may be constantly changing. These websites and services may have their own privacy policies and customer service policies. Browsing and interaction on any other website, including websites which have a link to our School, is subject to that website's own terms and policies.

5. Changes to this Privacy Policy

The School has the discretion to update this Privacy Policy at any time. We encourage Students to frequently check this page for any changes. You acknowledge and agree that it is your responsibility to review this Privacy Policy periodically and become aware of modifications.

6. Your acceptance of these terms

By interacting with the School or using any of our websites, you signify your acceptance of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to this Privacy Policy, please do not interact with us or use any of our websites. Your continued interaction with us or usage of any of our websites following the posting of changes to this Privacy Policy will be deemed your acceptance of those changes.
